New York (the first hour)

...after the first hour of picture-taking the battery died completely, and refused to respond even after knocking, warming and cursing. So here are just a few. At least half of the pictures concern type. That should be a good thing.

I just realized that the main purpose of the trip had ben to change the lightbulbs in my mom's house to the more energy-efficient variety, and to buy soft covers for chair legs to avoiid scratching the hardwood floors. Life is slow. Peaceful. I want to sit inside and make comfort food. Or go shopping. No rush. Nothing gets done (which s a big minus. I did plan on getting this website together, and applying to design jobs, which requires, among other things, finishing this website. Wicked, wicked.) Everyone has time to be friendly and talk to you. This is not unlike Wyoming (where locals told us --- "we're not friendly. We're just so lonely...") So here it is.

Things I would never have known if I did not come here:
Fort Worth, TX is amazingly walkable in the Museum District. From the neighborhood around the University of North Texas, all the way to Downtown.
In the developed partsd of the city, traffic lights have sheets of steel attached to them. not sure why.
It is prohibited to wash horses on the sidewalk. (although I expected something like this. C'mon, this is the state of Real Cowboys.)
People do wear cowboy hats and boots. To the mall. On the street. And definately to the bar/nightclub places.
Everything, not just the portion size, is big and hearty. The amount of light in the bathroom (four 60W bulbs.) The amount of water that comes out of the tap when you just slightly turn it. The number of coffee machines per building at the university. The width of the sidewalks, parking spots (although this is a function of the car size. Cars ARE huge.)
